Pricing

What are the different price levels?

The three different price levels represent Good, Better and Best prices. Below is the price breakdown shown in our catalog:

Are the amounts of the opening orders before or after discount?

Each opening order amount is the total you will pay after the discount. For example, to get the 'Best' discount, you need to place an order of $3500 using the 'Best' price level. $3500 is what you will pay, as long as you get to that dollar amount. If you fall short of hitting that discount, the item prices will be adjusted based on the correct discount level, and your total will be re-figured.

Loyalty Discount

Why does Melrose do this program instead of the one everyone else does?

Our competitors pricing structure benefits them. Our pricing structure benefits you. Our competitors make you buy deep into one item to receive a deeper discount on it. You know the story….you buy 6 you get it for $10, you buy 12 you get it for $9, you buy a case and you get it for $7. If they don’t have to pack and pull and repack it they don’t charge you the labor they are paying to do this. Do you like paying the labor if you only buy 6? Also, if you originally ordered 12 for $9 and now you only need to reorder 6 for $10 what are you going to price it at?

Or you have the wholesaler that tells you, “We’re going to give you a 40% discount off the top price!” What was the criteria? What if you have a rep change? 40% off what??? It may sound good, but if it sounds too good to be true remember what they say.

At Melrose we want you to buy deep in the line not deep into one product for a discount. We give you the discount for a year no matter the reorder amount to make it easy for you to maintain your mark. So when you reorder…no matter the amount….you get the same price! The rules to get the discount apply the same to everyone and we post it so if you have a competitor in your town carrying our product you know they aren’t getting something better than you.

What’s the benefit of this program?

We are warehousing for you instead of jamming up your backroom. Once you have established your discount it is yours for a whole year. You don’t have to buy big again until next year. You reorder as you need it. You maintain your profitability with a consistent mark, you don’t lose gross profit by over ordering items and you save money by not taking up valuable backroom space.

If my total orders for the year equal the next discount level does my discount increase?

No. You set your discount with one order. The amount of that order is what determines your discount. You do maintain your discount for the next year by your total orders for the year. If, for the year, you order the same or more than your discount level amount you will maintain the current discount you have for another year. So, you should take this into consideration on your initial order with Melrose. Try to get the highest discount you possibly can without compromising yourself.

How do I know what my current discount is?

You can check to see what your discount level is at anytime by looking online. When you first login to the website, you will be greeted with a welcome screen. On the right hand side are your account details at a glance, including your current discount level. If you have just placed an order that bumps you up to the next level, please wait 24 hours for the change to be reflected. If you still have questions on your discount level, please contact a sales expert in our corporate office at 217-222-2144.

Can I combine more than one order to reach a discount level?

No. But if you place two orders your discount will be based on your biggest dollar amount order. The best thing to do is to try to combine as much as you can on one order for one ship time instead of placing a bunch of small orders. Then after you have reached your discount level, you can place as many smaller orders as you like - and still receive the great discount!

Do sale items count in trying to achieve my total?

Yes they do. You will not get any further discounts on the sale items but they will count towards your total.

In order to maintain my discount at the end of the year, does the total dollar amount consist of just my invoiced items or does it include invoiced plus open or backorders?

It will be on invoiced orders only. However, in certain situations we will look at your account and try to be as fair as possible.

If I make my order and something is out of stock and puts me below the discount, will I still receive the discount anyway?

We will review this with you and try to find alternative items in order to keep the discount. Again, we will try to be as fair as possible.

Can I receive a discount if I just order a case of one item?

Currently we do not have case discounts. Please contact your representative or a sales expert in our corporate office to discuss this further.

How long does my discount last?

We review the discounts the first quarter of every year. If you have ordered in the second half of the current year, your account will not be reviewed until the next January.

Do I automatically get my discount or do I have to note it on my order?

We review all orders and give discounts accordingly. If we have any questions or concerns we will contact you. If you feel more comfortable noting it to us on your order that is fine.

Claims/Damages

I have a broken item and would like to get it replaced. How is that handled?

If you need a replacement for a damaged item, please call Melrose and submit a claim. Once you have filed your claim, a credit will be applied to your account for the defective merchandise, and then a replacement order will be made. You will receive both a credit memo and a new invoice, which will cancel each other out. The replacement will then be sent at no additional freight cost to you.

Can I submit a claim for only one or two pieces from a set?

If you have one damaged item that is part of a set and would like to receive credit versus a replacement, the credit will be figured based on the following:

  • Set of 2: 60% for the larger item, 40% for the smaller item
  • Set of 3: 50% for the larger item, 30% for the medium item, 20% for the smaller item
  • Set of 4 or more: Percentage will be divided evenly by the number of pieces in the set

Showrooms

Are your showrooms open during non-show times?

Our showrooms are open during non-show times, but we can not guarantee someone will be at each one every day, all day. If you would like to visit one of our showrooms during a non-show time, please call our home office at 800-282-2144 and we will set up an appointment for your business to shop with one of our knowledgeable showroom staff!

What music do you play in the showroom?

Our showrooms are equipped with what we call "Melrose Radio".  Follow the link below!

Why it is important for retailers to shop the showrooms during major markets?

In January we début our new collections for the upcoming Holiday season and in June/July we debut our new Home & Garden Collections (View Showroom Locations). This gives retailers a chance to touch and feel our product and see it in person as opposed to through the catalog or website.

When you place an order at the shows we are then able to determine how much stock we need to purchase for each individual item. Melrose does its best to keep items in our warehouse 24/7, but without retailers pre-booking their orders we are unable to judge how to best stock our warehouse for future orders and re-orders. Ordering from China is not easy. Production and shipping times can sometimes take 5 months from the time we submit our order until we get the product.

So I’d be ordering product 6 months in advance?

Correct. You don’t have to try to guess what you will sell for the entire season but we need you to make at least an initial order so we know what you and other retailers like so we can figure out what we’ll need for the year. We do your forecasting for you!!

After finishing your Holiday season in December, join us at the January shows to see what’s new for the next Holiday season. Same goes for finishing your Spring season then buying in June/July for the next Spring. This is great because the last season is still fresh in your mind, you know what items sold through and what your carry over is.

If Melrose is going to buy product regardless, why wouldn’t a retailer wait until a few months before the season to place an order?

When you place an order in advance, we allocate the product to you at that time so it is guaranteed you will receive it. This informs our purchasing department at Melrose how much of each item to bring in and keep on hand.  We dislike having to tell customers that we are out of stock of product.  You don’t want to end your year with a full backroom and neither does Melrose, so we order pretty close to what we need.
